Summertime is finally here!
Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful mountain weather. Many of you loved watching the lady bugs hatch outside our office window late spring. Now we are graced with beautiful butterflies fluttering all around...check them out next time you're here. Unfortunately there's also a ton of infamous yellow dust "flying" about...aka pollen. Studies have shown that the right foods can help relieve allergies to dust, pollen, mold and other spores in the air.
The following foods help battle airborne allergies...
Foods to avoid if you experience congestion or other symptoms year-round...
We hope this information is of help to allergy sufferers.
Summer is not so much a season as a melody. Enjoy the music!
Dr Hugh A. Bialecki and Team
Fun Staff Stuff
In May, our team found its way to yet another fun and inspiring workshop. Many of you patients know of our involvement in the alumni program of The Pride Institute. Dr Bialecki's dedication to this program provides our team with extraordinary opportunities for growth and building positive relationships within our team and with patients alike. The most recent meeting was held at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas and the program focused on Emotional Intelligence. Why a workshop on Emotional Intelligence? As a staff, we are always looking for ways to nurture our ability to understand and manage our own emotions and those of our patients.
We always take some time out for fun and enjoyed a great performance by The Blue Man Group. Of course we love to investigate the local eateries. We had a great time!
- Fruits high in vitamin C may help reduce inflammation. When you're especially congested, choose from these twice a day---an orange, one cup strawberries, an apple, one cup of grapes or a medium wedge of watermelon.
- Nuts, especially almonds, hazelnuts and peanuts, are a good source of vitamin E, which helps minimize inflammation.
- Cold-water fish (wild salmon, mackerel, trout, herring and sardines), as well as walnuts and flaxseed, contain omega-3 fatty acids, which help fight inflammation.
- Oysters, shrimp and crab, as well as legumes, whole grains and tofu, are all high in zinc, which has antibacterial and antiviral effects that provide relief for immune systems overtaxed by fighting allergies.
- Tea, whether green, white or black, is full of flavonoids, plant compounds that reduce inflammation. Tea also increases proteins in the body that fight infection.
-
Horseradish, hot mustard, fennel, anise and sage also stimulate the cilia and act as natural decongestants.
- Foods that contain yeast, such as bread and baked goods, wine, beer and spirits...fermented foods, such as sauerkraut and cider...foods that tend to get moldy, such as cheese and mushrooms and vinegar and sauces that contain vinegar.
- Milk and dairy products, such as yogurt, butter and ice cream, could be making you feel worse if you have a congested nose.
