Growing up with a dentist as a father and dental hygienist as a mother, the importance of oral health was instilled in me throughout childhood. Seeing my father making a positive change in his patients and the small community that I grew up in, planted a seed that would many years later grow to the decision of becoming a dentist myself.
That childhood dream of stepping into my father’s footsteps was put on hold when I discovered my love for technology, specifically computers and the internet. Throughout my high school years, I would build and repair computers for friends and family. After taking classes in web design and graphic arts, at age 18, I founded my own media company to pursue a career in the fast growing online marketplace. Yet, although I enjoyed the creativity that I was able to express in various projects and being able to help clients, an important aspect was missing for me. In particular, I longed for the interaction and personal connection with people that I had witnessed my father develop when he treated his patients. At that time, I realized that I could still use my creativity and combine it with the more personal aspect of providing dental care. Fast forward through eight years of college and university education, four of which were at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, I now realize that the seed that was planted in my childhood has grown and flourished to a strong tree that fulfills me more than I could have imagined.
Finally, I couldn’t have achieved this goal without the support of my wife Shannon, who I’ve been married to since 2005, as well as my children Sophia (2010) and Levi (2013).
